Bar review: The Golden Bull
10/1/05 The Golden Bull located at 410 14th St. Downtown Oakland
I went the this dive bar expecting it to be full of men my father's age, it was. Apparently this bar has a double life. During the day and early evening hours (when I went) it serves as a watering hole for local retreads. This is probably true of most bars. During the later part of the night it becomes a venue for some good local bands. There was an interesting, somewhat humerus disparity that I noticed while sitting at the bar. In one corner of the room, a gold Buddha statue sat peacefully meditating under a glowing under red light. In contrast a few yards away, a wary bouncer sat by the door, scrutinizing everyone that moved. The drinks were strong, I'd go back.
